Limerick Gardaí urges caution with online lending

GARDAÍ in Limerick advises not to be tempted by online loans that promise fantastic interest rates.

Henry Street Garda Station crime prevention officer Sgt. Ber Leetch recommends applying for a loan only from a reputable financial institution, as they would never charge a loan fee.

“Be very suspicious if the loan offer has a deadline. Scammers often create a sense of urgency and people may not take the time to check details.

A woman from Castletroy told Gardaí that she had applied for a €1,000 loan through an online company. She received a call that she had to pay a deposit of €195 and to date had not received the loansaid Sgt. Leetch.
